RTX 50-Series Best Settings & Optimization Guide (2026)

The RTX 50-series (Blackwell) is the most powerful consumer GPU line NVIDIA has shipped, but out-of-the-box settings leave performance on the table. Since driver 610.47 retired the 20-year-old NVIDIA Control Panel, everything now lives in the unified NVIDIA App — and most owners have no idea the defaults aren't tuned for framerate.
First: Set Up NVIDIA App Correctly
The NVIDIA App replaces both GeForce Experience and the legacy Control Panel. After updating to driver 610.47 or newer, open the NVIDIA App and:
- Sign out of the mandatory-login requirement — driver 610.47 removed the login gate for basic driver features
- Click Settings → General and confirm "In-Game Overlay" is on only if you use Alt+Z
- Under Drivers, install the latest Game Ready driver with Custom → Clean install checked to clear stale profile entries

Global 3D Settings for Maximum Frames
In NVIDIA App → Graphics → Global Settings, start here:

The single biggest quality-of-life change is Shader Cache Size. Open-world AAA games (STALKER 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and countless UE5 titles) compile shaders at runtime. DLSS 4 & Per-Game Quality Presets
Blackwell cards support DLSS 4 with the 2nd-gen Transformer model. Don't run the out-of-box preset — the Boost preset uses too much performance headroom in single-player games.

For competitive titles (CS2, Valorant, Call of Duty), drop to "Quality" at lower resolution or use DLSS Super Resolution with frame-gen off — frame generation adds 10–20 ms latency that competitive players don't want.
You can force newer DLSS Transformer presets onto older games via the NVIDIA App's DLSS Overrides. This lets Blackwell owners apply the latest model to games that shipped with an early DLSS 2 build, usually for a free image-quality boost.
Undervolting the RTX 5090 / 5080 / 5070
The RTX 5090 lands at a 575W TGP — arguably more power than its silicon needs. Undervolting to ~0.885V drops draw to ~450W while keeping ~96% of stock performance. That means lower noise, less heat, and more stable boost clocks long after other cards have thermally throttled.
In NVIDIA App → use MSI Afterburner (or the app's built-in voltage curve editor):
- Open the voltage-frequency curve
- Drag the 0.885V point to your card's stable boost clock (start ~96% of stock)
- Hold Ctrl and drag the curve flat after that point
- Test in a benchmark; back off if it crashes

Per-Game Profiles: Competitive vs Single-Player
Create two profiles.
Competitive profile (CS2, Valorant, Warzone):
- DLSS4 Quality or off
- Frame generation off
- Reflex On + Boost
- V-Sync off
Visual profile (single-player, path-traced):
- DLSS 4 Quality
- Frame generation on (base FPS above 60)
- Reflex On
- Ray tracing high
NVIDIA App saves per-game overrides. The key insight is that you don't need to change Global settings when you play a different game — the profile handles inputs for you.
Windows-Side Tweaks That Complement Blackwell
No driver setting fixes a Windows bottleneck. Enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) and disable Memory Integrity (VBS) if you're comfortable trading Maximum security for frames — VBS alone costs 5–15% FPS on CPU-bound titles.
