It Stops Before It Breaks

A follow-up to 3.1.0. Turning a service off now refuses when a running program depends on it, which is what made monitoring software read 0 for processor load, temperatures, graphics details and memory. Updating asks nothing of you: your tweaks, backups and undo history carry over unchanged.

Turning a service off now checks whether a running program depends on it, and refuses with that program named instead of quietly breaking it. The check used to be made and then ignored. That is how a general "unnecessary services" tweak could switch off something a monitoring app needed, leaving it to report 0 for processor load and temperature, graphics details and memory while disk space still read correctly.
Nothing is changed and nothing is backed up when it refuses, so there is no half-applied state to undo, and the refusal is recorded in the audit log.

The Sensor Service option warns that monitoring software relies on the Windows sensor platform, and names what to check for: do not apply it on a PC running DeepCool, HWiNFO or LibreHardwareMonitor.

It Reports What It Can Prove

A truthfulness release. Undo restores what was actually there and says so when it cannot, the app stops reporting numbers it did not measure, and a tweak your PC cannot run is reported as skipped instead of as a failure. Updating asks nothing of you: your tweaks, backups and undo history carry over unchanged.

Every restore now reads the setting back afterwards, so a restore that wrote nothing is reported as a failure instead of a success, across services, power, network, boot and disk settings.
A failed restore can no longer be quietly resolved by a reset: the failure is reported and the backup is kept, so undo still works on the next attempt.
Your newer value is never overwritten by an old capture. If a setting changed after SageTweaks recorded it, the restore is refused and says why.
Restore points are detected correctly, and "System Protection is off" is reported as itself rather than as a generic failure.
Power tweaks capture the value that was there before, or name the setting they could not read instead of reporting a vague failure.
An interrupted run no longer blocks every later tweak. It is resolved on the next launch and names the tweak it was on.
An apply that is still running is no longer reported as an unexpected crash, and a crash report now says how the previous run ended instead of guessing.
A pinned processor power range is repaired on every setting it affects, and the message names the value that was wrong.

Opening Optimize My PC no longer re-checks your whole machine on every scan. The result is cached as intended, which removed roughly 25 seconds from a scan on affected systems.
A check that cannot read your PC now says "unknown" instead of showing a green tick or a zero, and a measurement that was not taken says so instead of showing 0.
A tweak your PC cannot run is reported as skipped, with the reason, rather than as a failed tweak.
The Undo Center stops presenting a full reset as an "undo": each entry says whether your original value came back, or the setting was reset.
Long batches are split into smaller pieces, so one failure no longer strands the whole run.
Removed the benchmark feature, the disk-test program bundled with it, and the AI narration that could not answer in this build. Retired 74 tweak entries that did nothing, so plans stop recommending work with no effect.
Removed two panels that only ever said there was nothing to report: the Optimize My PC list of tweaks that do not apply to your hardware, and the Live Game Mode pressure warnings card.
Messages appear in your language, and internal wording no longer leaks into the interface.

Recovery You Can Trust

A reliability release focused on one promise: undo restores exactly what was there before, says so honestly when it cannot, and never guesses. Updating asks nothing of you — your tweaks, backups, and undo history carry over unchanged.

Undo restores captured originals instead of resetting to defaults — and refuses outright when no original was captured, rather than writing a guess.
A failed rollback keeps its backup for retry instead of deleting the only recovery record.
DNS revert now covers every changed adapter (not just the first), follows renames, verifies the restore, and keeps failures pending for retry.
Game-session cleanup — services, power plan, suspended apps, GPU clocks — keeps retryable records until each restore actually succeeds, and reports failures instead of closing clean.
Boot changes share one fail-closed safety check across every path: an unknown BitLocker state blocks the change instead of proceeding.

Status checks report "unverifiable" instead of "not applied" when a read fails, so inspection errors no longer manufacture false drift.
Laptop-hostile power tweaks no longer auto-apply unless the PC is positively identified as a desktop.
The GPU optimizer reports applied, partial, and failed per item instead of one blanket success message.
The Undo Center keeps recovery available for tweaks with a valid backup even when the live check reads "no longer applied".

Safer by Default

Our biggest safety release yet. We removed the tweaks behind the problems users actually hit, added new guardrails around the powerful ones that remain, and stopped recommending changes that did nothing. Updating asks nothing of you — your tweaks, backups, and undo history carry over unchanged.

Removed the GPU and display tweaks that could prevent display initialization on reboot, along with other high-risk tweaks that had caused real breakage or had no way back.
Removed Windows Update service tweaks that broke automatic updates for some users, and an SSD maintenance action that could not be undone.
SageTweaks no longer recommends tweaks that do nothing — changes Windows ignores or merely records as a preference are out of the recommended list. Onboarding now applies fewer tweaks, but every one of them makes a real, revertible change.
Tweak switches on the category pages update immediately after Optimize My PC applies them, instead of waiting for the tab to reload.

Boot configuration changes check for BitLocker first and stop with instructions instead of triggering a recovery key prompt.
Disabling a service records what depended on it in the audit trail, so a later problem can be traced back.
Laptops are detected automatically, and power tweaks that drain battery or cause thermal throttling are skipped with a clear message.
The most powerful tweaks that remain — disabling Memory Integrity, CPU virtualization, or CPU vulnerability mitigations — require typing a confirmation phrase, and say plainly what they trade away.

The Undo Center now checks live state: each entry shows whether the tweak is still applied on your PC right now, no longer applied, or cannot be verified — read from your registry in the moment, not from a ledger.
New tweaks with a measurable effect, including GPU interrupt priority, network adapter tuning, and audio buffer sizing.
Profile applies now report how many tweaks verified afterwards, drifted, or could not be verified.
Optimize My PC now builds its plan once per launch: leaving the tab and coming back shows your results instantly, with a Rescan button whenever you want fresh data.
Every Optimize My PC apply starts with a brand-new restore point, and afterwards the app recommends a restart so the changes take full effect.
Disk Health scans your drives automatically when you open the tab.

Every Undo, Replayed

A precision release. SageTweaks now replays every tweak's undo and checks the value actually comes back — which sharpened a number of undos and turned up tweak descriptions that promised more than the tweak delivered. Routine update from 2.1.0. Nothing changes in how you use the app.

Undo restores the exact prior value in more places: power plans, network adapters, storage, boot settings, audio and USB power.
Undoing a tweak applied under an intensity profile no longer leaves the setting behind.
Undoing Disable Telemetry no longer leaves services disabled, and a service undo can no longer re-enable one you had turned off.
Deep registry cleaning snapshots keys before clearing them, won't remove whole directories, and no longer treats your local app data as temporary files.
A partial cleanup reports what it couldn't remove instead of failing silently.

Tweaks that only record a preference, or that Windows no longer supports, now say so instead of advertising a benefit.
Process-priority tweaks state that their effect ends at the next reboot.

Undo Everything, Freeze Nothing

fixed

Activating a license left every tweak blocked until you restarted the app. Activation saved your license without the server signature that 2.0.0 requires before applying anything — so the app said "License activated" while every Apply quietly failed. If you are on 2.0.0, this affects you.
You had to re-enter your license key after some restarts. The hardware fingerprint was not stable between launches, so the server occasionally saw a new machine and spent one of the two hardware changes a license allows. It is now derived once, from identifiers that are actually readable, and reused unchanged.
Every scheduled task opened the SageTweaks window instead of running silently — which, on a standard Windows account, meant a UAC prompt or an error dialog at every sign-in. Tasks left behind by an earlier version are cleaned up automatically on first launch.
The window froze during long operations. Around 31 backend commands were running on the UI thread, so the app looked hung while it was working. They now run off-thread.
Batch operations failed partway through with "security validation failed" whenever you selected more than five items.
Backup Registry overwrote its own backups. A multi-key export collapsed to a single file while the interface reported success — filenames now include the hive and key.
Operations could spin forever without ever failing. Every external tool call now has a time budget and is stopped when it expires.
The app got slower the longer you left it open.

Undo Center v2 — revert one individual tweak, not just an entire time window, with an honest fidelity badge on every entry showing whether the original value was fully captured, partially captured, or cannot be restored.
The Scheduler actually schedules things: choose exactly which categories the daily cleanup touches, plus two new weekly tasks for drift repair and report export. Sign-in profiles are now picked from your real saved profiles.
Settings → General → Appearance, with the language picker and a compact-density toggle. Both already worked internally but had no control anywhere in the interface.
A two-step confirmation before irreversible app removal, so uninstalling a bundled Windows app cannot be a single misclick.

A tweak that cannot be undone is no longer applied at all when it is backed by a command rather than a registry value.
A corrupt backup file is refused rather than treated as an empty one — previously that could "revert" a tweak to nothing.
The license and policy enforcement tasks can no longer be deleted from the Scheduler list.
Crash recovery now rolls back advanced-module tweaks as well, not only the legacy set.

The revert audit that 2.0.0 started is finished. All 11 advanced network tweaks are revertable, CPU, memory, storage and advanced-registry reverts now use the backups they captured, and 15 further modules no longer change your system without saving a restore value first.
A new automated gate means a tweak cannot be added to SageTweaks in future without declaring whether it can be undone.
Placebo tweaks are no longer counted as wins in results or scoring, benchmark verdicts are derived from each run’s own measured noise rather than reported as gains, and the Games MMCSS preset is counted as one setting instead of 13.
Three commodity features were removed rather than kept half-working: File Tools, third-party app updates, and driver maintenance. Dedicated tools do each of them better, and between them they caused a disproportionate share of the freezes and errors fixed above. The Debloater, Apps Remover, and every other feature are untouched.
The Quick Wins page, the Prove It wizard, and an unreachable Benchmark page were also removed as duplicates of surfaces that already did the same job. The measurement engine behind Prove It is unchanged — "no measurable change" is still a first-class result.
The app icon is no longer blurry in the titlebar, taskbar and tray.

Optimization profiles are differentiated by intent, with honest per-profile tweak counts.
Session proof cards now lead with frame-time consistency (1% lows) instead of average FPS.
Faster startup and faster bulk applies through batched state writes, parallel verification, and smarter caching.

Fixed a crash in RAGE-engine games (FiveM / GTA V) by removing the hybrid-CPU performance-core pinning introduced in 1.5.0 — it had no measured frame-time benefit and could starve some games of cores.
Applying many tweaks at once no longer stops silently partway through.
Dozens of advanced tweaks that previously could not be reverted now restore correctly — and reverting a tweak with no saved backup says so plainly instead of reporting a false success.
Removed two statistics the app could not actually measure. If we cannot prove a number, we do not show it.

License validation is now cryptographically signed (Ed25519) end to end — online, cached, and offline. Note for upgraders: sign in online once after updating before going offline.
The always-on-top FPS overlay was removed, narrowing the app's internal attack surface; live 1% low and P95 data moved to the post-session report.
Registry write allowlists were narrowed further, and two legacy commands that bypassed the destructive-tweak confirmation gate were removed.
Freezing background apps during games is now strictly opt-in, and SageTweaks never freezes itself.
