You're giving an optimizer Administrator access to your machine. You should know exactly what it does and doesn't do — and have proof. This page is that proof.
Public, auditable facts about the current SageTweaks installer.
The public VirusTotal report currently shows 69 / 72 engines clean. The full report is viewable, and the flagged engines are documented heuristic detections on the unsigned installer.
Backup snapshots, audit logs, restore support, and supported-tweak rollback for optimization flows.
Local hardware detection with licensing checks and optional AI/backend requests when those features are used.
The installer is currently unsigned (EV code-signing certificate procurement in progress). The app requests Administrator only for the registry and service operations that require elevation, and never to load drivers, install kernel modules, or modify system files outside Windows-documented configuration paths. The published SHA-256 + VirusTotal scan let you verify any download before running it.
High-level list of Windows areas the optimizer modifies. Optimization sessions are logged with rollback support for supported tweaks.
| Area | What we change |
|---|---|
| Windows Power Plans | Switches scheme, modifies USB selective suspend, disables CPU parking on demand. Reverts cleanly. |
| Network Stack (Tcpip\Parameters) | Adjusts Nagle's algorithm, TCP ACK frequency, MTU. Per-interface, reversible. |
| Process Priority (Image File Execution Options) | Sets HIGH priority for game executables you opt into. Removable per-game. |
| Kernel Timer Resolution | Adjusts global timer resolution to 0.5ms during gaming sessions. |
| Windows Services Startup Type | SysMain, Print Spooler, Windows Search — only when you confirm. Original startup type recorded. |
| Startup Programs | Audit and disable, never delete. Re-enable with one click. |

The public VirusTotal report currently shows 69 / 72 engines clean. The flagged engines are documented ML-heuristic detections on the unsigned Tauri/Rust binary. The SHA-256 and full report are published so you can verify the file independently before running it.
SageTweaks is designed to stay at the Windows OS level: registry values, services, power plans, and network parameters. It does not read or write game files, attach to game processes, hook anti-cheat systems, or interact with gameplay memory. Anti-cheat policies can change, so review the relevant game rules before applying any optimizer or manual tweak.
The desktop tweaks engine does not send product analytics by default. Licensing, update checks, and optional AI/backend features may contact SageTweaks services with the context needed for those features. Marketing analytics on the website are listed in our privacy policy and can be opted out of via cookie consent.
SageTweaks uses backup snapshots, audit logs, restore support, and supported-tweak rollback for optimization flows.. Supported tweaks can be rolled back from inside the app, and audit records show what changed.
Not yet. The current installer is unsigned while we complete EV (Extended Validation) code-signing certificate procurement. Until the next signed release ships, Windows SmartScreen may show a "Windows protected your PC" warning on first run — click "More info → Run anyway" to install. This is normal for any indie unsigned binary; the SHA-256, VirusTotal scan, and complete change list above let you verify the file independently before running it.
