How to Use SageTweaks: Setup and Activation Guide

This guide walks you through getting SageTweaks running on your PC from purchase to first scan. The entire process takes under 5 minutes.
Step 1: Choose Your Plan
Visit sagetweaks.com/pricing and select the plan that fits your needs:
- Monthly — Best for trying SageTweaks or short-term optimization projects
- Yearly — Best value for ongoing use, billed annually
- Lifetime — One-time payment, all future updates included (limited availability)
All plans include the same optimization features. The difference is billing period only.
Step 2: Complete Checkout
Click Get SageTweaks on your chosen plan. You'll be taken to the checkout page:
- Enter your email address — this is where your license key and receipt will be sent
- Enter your payment details (card or PayPal accepted)
- Click Complete Purchase
You'll see an order confirmation page immediately. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for the confirmation email — it arrives within 30 seconds.
Step 3: Download the Installer
In your confirmation email, click Download SageTweaks. Alternatively:
- Visit sagetweaks.com/download
- Click Download for Windows
- The installer (
SageTweaksSetup.exe) downloads automatically
System requirements: Windows 10 (20H2+) or Windows 11, 4GB RAM minimum, 200MB disk space.
Step 4: Run the Installer
Double-click SageTweaksSetup.exe. If Windows shows a SmartScreen warning:
- Click More info
- Click Run anyway
The SmartScreen warning appears because the current SageTweaks installer is unsigned indie software — EV code-signing certificate procurement is in progress and the warning will go away with the next signed release. The installer is verified clean by 69 of 72 antivirus engines on VirusTotal, and the published SHA-256 lets you verify the file independently before running it.
Follow the installer prompts:
- Choose installation folder (default is
C:\Program Files\SageTweaks) - Click Install
- Installation takes 15–30 seconds
Step 5: Enter Your License Key
When SageTweaks opens for the first time, you'll see the activation screen.
Your license key is in the confirmation email — it looks like: SAGE-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
- Copy the key from your email
- Paste it into the License Key field
- Click Activate
If activation fails, check that your device is connected to the internet and that you're using the key from your email, not copying from a screenshot (formatting can break).
Each license supports activation on one PC at a time. To move your license to a different PC, deactivate it first in Account → Manage License → Deactivate this PC.
Step 6: Run Your First Optimization Scan
After activation, SageTweaks scans your system:
- Click Scan System on the dashboard
- The scan takes 10–30 seconds and checks your hardware, current Windows settings, and active services
- SageTweaks shows a list of recommended optimizations, ranked by impact for your specific hardware
Applying Optimizations
- Apply All Recommended — applies every safe optimization in one click (recommended for most users)
- Apply Selected — choose which optimizations to apply individually (for advanced users)
All changes are logged. Every optimization can be reversed individually in Settings → Restore Point.
Game-Specific Profiles
If you play competitive titles, go to Game Profiles and select your games. SageTweaks applies additional optimizations specific to each game's engine — the settings that matter for Valorant are different from the ones that matter for CS2.
What Happens After Optimization
Restart your PC after applying optimizations. The full effect requires a reboot because several changes (power plan, timer resolution, USB latency) take effect on next boot.
After restarting:
- Your GPU should now be in maximum performance mode
- Background processes that were consuming CPU are stopped
- Timer resolution is set to 0.5ms (reduces input timing variance)
- USB latency tweaks are applied (reduces mouse response time)
Open your game and check your FPS counter. Most users see a 10–30% FPS increase and noticeably reduced stuttering within the first session.
