Follow these steps in order. Each one is independent — skip any that don't apply to your setup.
Valorant can be CPU-sensitive, but the bottleneck varies by system. Open Valorant -> Settings -> Video -> Graphics Quality. Use Low or Off as a baseline for Material Quality, Texture Quality, Detail Quality, UI Quality, Shadows, Bloom, Distortion, and Cast Shadows, then test visibility and frame times on your own PC.
In Valorant -> Settings -> Video -> General, compare Fullscreen against Windowed Fullscreen. Disable VSync only if you are diagnosing latency or frame pacing, then set a measured frame-rate limit that fits your display, GPU load, and thermals.
Press Win+X → Windows PowerShell (Admin) → paste: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61. Then go to Control Panel → Power Options and select "Ultimate Performance." Valorant requires consistent CPU clock speeds — power throttling can cause sudden FPS drops during gunfights.
Launch Valorant and open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) → Details tab. Find VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe, right-click → Set priority → High. Do the same for Riot Client services.exe. This tells Windows to prioritize Valorant over background processes when allocating CPU time.
In Valorant -> Settings -> Video -> Graphics Quality, find NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency and test Enabled or Enabled + Boost on supported Nvidia GPUs. Reflex changes render-queue behavior, but results depend on GPU load, frame cap, display, and driver.
Go to Windows Settings → Gaming → Xbox Game Bar and toggle it off. Also disable Discord overlay (Discord → Settings → Game Overlay → toggle off). Disable GeForce Experience overlay if you have it. Every overlay that runs over Valorant consumes GPU resources and adds input lag.
Before starting Valorant, close Discord overlays, browsers, streaming software, and any other application you do not need. Open Task Manager and check CPU/RAM usage at idle. If background load is high, close apps one at a time and compare frame-time stability.
For supported Windows review, use SageTweaks for timer resolution optimization, DPC latency reduction, TCP/IP tuning, USB polling, and selected system tweaks with the dedicated Valorant catalog.
Results vary by CPU, GPU, RAM, drivers, thermals, display resolution, background apps, overlays, and the current Valorant build. Use Low settings as a baseline, then benchmark your own PC before and after each change.
Start by testing Shadows, Material Quality, Detail Quality, UI Quality, Anti-Aliasing, and resolution. The effect depends on whether your PC is CPU-bound, GPU-bound, thermal-limited, or affected by overlays and background apps.
Common causes on high-end hardware: wrong power plan (CPU throttling), Valorant set to Windowed Fullscreen instead of Fullscreen, VSync enabled, background apps stealing resources, or outdated GPU drivers. Valorant is also CPU-sensitive — if your CPU is older, Windows-level tweaks to reduce CPU overhead make a large difference.
SageTweaks applies Windows-level settings and does not require touching Valorant game files, game memory, or packets. Anti-cheat policies can change, so avoid tools that modify the game process and keep optimization work at the OS, driver, and in-game settings level.
Use the highest stable frame rate your PC can sustain without large frame-time spikes, thermal throttling, or GPU saturation. A consistent frame-time graph and responsive input feel matter more than a universal target number.
Instead of doing each tweak manually, SageTweaks can apply selected Windows optimizations from the verified catalog, including the dedicated Valorant catalog.
